Everything you need to Know About Waxing. Just in time for bikini season.

ALL THE SHAPES AND CONFUSING SALON LINGO, EXPLAINED FROM WAXING ME PRETTY CHELTENHAM.

FROM A LANDING STRIP TO AU NATURAL, OUR FRONT FLUFF IS A THING TO BE CHERISHED. HERE'S HOW TO HAVE SOME FUN WITH YOURS, IF YOU FANCY.

It's easy to get confused by all the different INTIMATE wax styles and salon lingo. But don't worry, because we're making things so much simpler.

Now you can find out what all the names, shapes and techniques mean, plus you get to see 'em recreated in glittery sequin style.

1 Au natural - Before we get all waxy with ya, let's be clear, there is nada wrong with leaving things down there 100% au natural. There's no pressure to play around with your pubes if you don't want to, but if you do, these are some of the best styles and shapes to try...

2 Basic Bikini - Ideal for a first time waxer, the basic bikini line touch up is exactly as the name would suggest, a tidy up around the edges. A good option if you want to keep things on the natural side, but prefer a little more definition. Hair is removed from anywhere outside of a modest panty line - so around the tops of thighs and any hair above your knickers.

3 Extended bikini - Similarly to the above, the extended bikini wax is still nice 'n' natural, but with a little more of a neaten up around the top and sides of your pubes. This is usually referred to as a extended bikini line on most salon menus. You can keep your knickers on when you have this one done.

4 G String - A G string wax differs from other styles like a Brazilian as most of the hair is taken from around the front, sides and back, but the middle (labia) is left alone. If you want down there to be smooth and clean of hair, without feeling too bare, a g string wax is the way to go.

5 Brazilian wax - Brazilian waxes are one of the most popular options when it comes to primping ya pubes. Unlike the G string version, when you go Brazilian they take the hair off the top and sides of the bikini line, but also all the way under and around the back, too. (Yep, that means around your bum). If you want to feel totally smooth and hairless, go Brazilian. The shape of the hair at the front is totally up to you, but the landing strip is a classic option. Other popular shapes include a tiny triangle and a postage stamp, but feel free to ask for whatever style you prefer.

6 The Hollywood - The Hollywood. This leaves you with no hair, nothing, nada, zip, zero… catch our drift? So be prepared to take your knickers off and don't be embarrassed to get into some yoga-esque poses so your waxer can get everywhere, remember it's nothing they haven't seen before.

SUMMER WILL BE HERE SOON. SO MANY OF US ARE TRYING TO GET OUR BODIES SOFT, SMOOTH AND HAIR-FREE. THE PROBLEM IS THAT NO HAIR REMOVAL METHOD IS WITHOUT ITS DOWNSIDES - SHAVING DOESN'T LAST LONG ENOUGH.

IN OUR SEARCH FOR A PAIN-FREE HAIR REMOVAL SOLUTION FOLLOW THE GUIDE BELOW.

Why can waxing be painful?
There can be several reasons for a painful waxing experience such as a therapist who has not been properly trained, using the incorrect type of wax on an area or not prepping the skin. The way the wax is applied is a key factor in how much pain a person will experience. Also it is very important to remove the wax correctly and for the therapist to apply pressure on the area once the wax is removed, which will help minimise the pain a client might feel.

The big waxing no-no!
Some salons use strip wax in sensitive areas, which is a complete no-no. Avoid at all costs. Only use hot wax for the sensitive areas. In fact, It’s a more pliable wax that is easier to work with as it does not break and is super gentle on the skin. It contains special soothing and calming properties that makes waxing completely gentle.

Why is waxing better than other forms of hair removal?
Waxing is cheap and it is actually a very pleasant experience. It stunts the hair growth. It is quick and you can instantly be hairless.

Are you very anti-shaving?
Yes I am very anti-shaving. I always find even after just one shave, clients have much stronger hair growth, which makes waxing more painful.

What’s your advice for people who have never tried waxing before?
Go to a qualified and experienced waxing therapist. Find out if they are using a quality wax. Make sure they use only hot wax for sensitive areas, such as the face, intimate areas and underarms. Also find out what they use before and after waxing. They should use specific pre and post waxing lotions.

What causes ingrown hairs?
Various things can cause ingrown hairs. Once a hair is removed from the follicle, the hair grows back and by the time the hair grows to the skin surface, the follicle can be blocked by dead skin cells. As the hair grows back with a point, it is a weaker hair, so it may not be able to push through the skin surface. In this case the hair might grow back downward within the follicle and become an ingrown hair. If this happens, the hair is then a foreign body in the follicle, simply because it did not grow out through the skin and it can get infected.

How can we prevent them? Exfoliate, exfoliate, and exfoliate! Exfoliating your skin is the best way to prevent ugly bumps and stubborn ingrown hairs; before and after your wax. There are many ways to exfoliate but at Waxing Me Pretty, we feel that dry exfoliating works the best! Using a dry or slightly damp soft-bristled brush, gently move in a circular motion around the waxed area. This is a great and aggressive way to remove dead skin cells, rejuvenate and renew the skin. This should be done before your wax and two days following your wax, as your skin will be a little sensitive.

WELL, UNLIKE MOST BEAUTY SALONS WHICH COULD BE CONSIDERED JACKS OF ALL TRADES BUT MASTERS OF NONE, WAXING ME PRETTY WAXING THERAPISTS DEVOTE THEIR ENTIRE DAYS TO HAIR REMOVAL.

OUR SPECIALIST SKILLS MEAN THAT YOUR WAXING ME PRETTY WAX WILL BE QUICKER, CAUSE YOU LESS DISCOMFORT AND GIVE YOU BETTER RESULTS THAN WAXES FROM GENERALIST BEAUTY SALONS, WHICH DO NOT TYPICALLY EMPLOY EXPERTS.

FURTHERMORE, WE’LL MAKE SURE THAT YOU GET THE BEST RESULTS FOR WEEKS AFTER YOUR TREATMENT THANKS TO THE DETAILED AFTERCARE ADVICE YOU WILL RECEIVE FROM OUR FRIENDLY AND KNOWLEDGEABLE THERAPIST.

It’s my Body and I’ll Wax if I Want To

We recognise that for many of our clients, having unwanted hair on certain body points is an extremely sensitive and emotive issue. Therefore, while we like to have fun with our business and our branding where we can, we also take the issue of hair removal extremely seriously. We take pride in the sheer professionalism that all of our therapist show and the compassionate, non-judgmental approach every single one of them takes to waxing.

Why should you wax, you may well ask?

The answer to that is very simple. It’s your body and you can wax if you want to! You should never wax, on the other hand, because someone else (or society) expects you too. And we’re not going to tell you that having a wax is cleaner, more hygienic, or give you a list of any other reasons why you should have one, because we don’t believe in that stuff.

This means that if you want it absolutely all off, we’ll take it all off. If you want to keep it all on and just have a little tidy up round the sides, that’s cool with us too. If you like your legs hairy and your underarms smooth, we can do that, and if you’ve got no problem with your moustache but want an Hollywood / Brazilian, then that’s what we’ll happily provide. And you can rest assured that whatever you have (or haven’t got) going on down there – or anywhere else – and whatever shape, size, or type you are, no one at Waxing Me Pretty will ever judge, balk or be fazed.

All we want, when all is said and done, is to help make you feel good about yourself.

Choose a skilled waxer. All salons offer waxing but not all of them do it well. An intimate wax should not be intimidating or painful. Go to a therapist who has had specific training - shockingly most therapists have had no proper training in intimate waxing.

At Waxing Me pretty we are professionally trained in intimate waxing to industry standards. Recognised and accredited from BABTAC as award winning waxing experts in female body waxing and intimate waxing with qualification and certificates available.

Warning  / Alarm bells! If you experience any of the following at your waxing salon this is not acceptable! Any discomfort or absolute agony during or 3 days after your waxing service, rip skin, bleeding vagina, blood in your knickers, burnt, blistering sore skin. This is all unacceptable. If this is what you experience go elsewhere. You do not need to experience this from an professional intimate waxer.

You should not have to ask for thoroughness - experts do this everyday so just leave the intimate waxing to them.

Everything a Bride Needs to Know About Waxing for Her Wedding Day

Everything a Bride Needs to Know About Waxing for Her Wedding Day

Let's face it: It just might feel like we shave more often than the average woman, spend more on hair removal, and have a need to tend to a particularly pesky ‘moustache.

So, on your big day I thought you should be armed with some need-to-know tips about waxing from a pro at Waxing Me Pretty CHELTENHAM.

Why is waxing the most ideal form of hair removal for a bride's wedding day? Waxing removes hair for a longer period of time and with better results than any other method. It removes the hair at the root and not just at skin level and typically lasts anywhere from three to six weeks—just what you need for your wedding day and honeymoon.

Which form of waxing is best and why? Hot wax! It is a Hypoallergenic applied at body temperature. It opens the pores slowly and moisturises.

Hot wax! It opens the pores slowly and moisturises the skin, allowing the wax to gently remove the hair.

How soon before your wedding day should you get a wax and why?

If you have never waxed the area before. We recommend to have a trial wax, I would recommend doing so one month prior to your wedding day. This allows you time to rehydrate your skin for a more effective wax just before your wedding day for a longer period of smooth skin through your honeymoon.

Prior to wedding day book two to three days before the big day is ideal.

What is the proper way to prep your skin for a wax?

  1. Grow your hair to about 1/4 inch in length. If it's too short, the wax may not effectively attach to the hair follicle.

  2. Exfoliate the areas you're having waxed. It's important to buff away dead skin cells to avoid clogged pores and ingrown hairs. Your last exfoliation should be at least one day before the wax treatment.

  3. Moisturize your skin properly until the day before the wax to keep the area hydrated (and after to keep your skin looking fabulous, of course).

What are some things you shouldn't even think about doing before your wedding?

There are lots of rules. If you tan often, have a wax first, then allow a day or two before soaking up some sun. Though microdermabrasion does remove dead skin cells, which is ideal before you wax, allow about two days before waxing to allow the skin to heal. If you are having any chemical treatment or using a topical acne treatment, consult your doctor and waxer before your service. Also, you should absolutely not drink alcohol before the wax. Drinking tightens your pores, which could make the hair more difficult to remove. And, finally, What's the key to making your service last and keeping your skin smooth?

Maintaining healthy and hydrated skin is essential for making your service last. Drink lots of water to hydrate from the inside out, and use a great daily moisturiser to lock in moisture. Exfoliating everyday up to one day prior to a wax also assists in hair removal.

The Surprising Reason So Many Women Are Getting Rid of Their Pubic Hair

The Surprising Reason So Many Women Are Getting Rid of Their Pubic Hair

Waxing me pretty Cheltenham firmly believe that what you choose to do with your pubic hair is your own business. Some people just aren't comfortable bringing a bush to the beach—and others are totally down with it. To each her own, right?

New research from University of California, San Francisco, shows that the gap of those who groom and those who go au naturel is bigger than ever. Of the 3,316 women who participated in the study, 84 percent reported that they trimmed, shaved or waxed some or all of their pubic hair. That leaves a mere 16 percent who don't do anything. But even more telling was why some women groom on a regular basis. Sure, researchers pinned the obvious factors, like social activities (which accounts for sex and vacation alike). But by a huge margin, the biggest reason was to please their partner. Essentially, if a woman's partner prefers her to go bare down there, she's much more likely to actually be bare down there.

But some women aren't so quick to pick up the razor or schedule a wax. If most women who groom do so to please a partner, the reasoning for not doing so may be about pleasing yourself, too. "I've never had the desire to and the women that I've been in relationships with have never cared about that," says one 27-year-old woman who's never messed with her pubic hair. "I prefer it that way because it's one less thing to maintain and leaving it as is doesn't bother me in the least.”

What's key to this is striking the balance between your personal preference and that of your partner's, if you're OK compromising. Really, anything besides that probably isn't healthy. We're all about taking it all off if that makes you feel good or sexy or more comfortable. And if you'd rather let it grow? So be it. They're your pubes. You should do with them what you want.

The women who invented the Brazilian wax

The women who invented the Brazilian wax

Waxing pubic hair has become increasingly common,

but how did the trend for the "Brazilian" wax begin?

In an office toilet in London, young women discuss their grooming regimes.

"I prefer the underneath being gone," says Lisa, 27. "Some people wax for the beach and other people wax for boys, and people who wax for boys wax the underneath."

Ever since Sex and the City tackled the subject, what women do with their pubic hair - trim, shave, pluck, wax or let it all hang out - has become a topic for discussion and scientific research.

Studies show that pubic hair grooming is becoming increasingly common. Earlier this year researchers reported in JAMA Dermatology that 84% of the American women who took part in their survey had done some grooming, with 62% removing all of their pubic hair. Younger women were much more likely to groom than the over-40s.

An earlier study in the Journal of Sexual Medicine linked the phenomenon to the availability of pornography. This same study suggested that the trend originated in South America - "hence the term Brazilian as slang for complete pubic hair removal".

But that is not the whole story.

"The Brazilian bikini wax was born here in New York, not Brazil," says Jonice Padilha, of the J Sisters salon in Manhattan, which pioneered the treatment in the early 1990s.

A Brazilian wax involves removing all the pubic hair from underneath and leaving some hair at the front for decorative purposes - perhaps a triangle, a thin "landing strip" or a heart-shape, that's up to the customer. "It's a freedom for you to have whatever you want," she says.

Jonice is the youngest of seven Brazilian sisters whose names all begin with J - the others are Jocely, Janea, Joyce, Juracy, Jussara and Judseia. They became known collectively as the J Sisters because nobody could get all the names right. Today the salon is popular with the rich and famous, and they make up to $6m a year on waxing, hair and nail treatments. But it had humble beginnings.

"It's an inspirational story of self-made women who came from nothing, illegal immigrants who made it in America," says Laura Malin, author of Wax and the City, a forthcoming book about the J Sisters. "It's the American dream."

The sisters come from the small coastal town of Vitoria, which lies between Rio and Bahia. They grew up in a large family - seven sisters and seven brothers - and in a traditional, macho culture. Their father forbade them from going out un - chaperoned, and was afraid it wasn't safe for them to work for other people, Jocely says.

But when he went bankrupt, his daughters began to bring in money by offering beauty treatments in their back yard. Eventually they became the main breadwinners, and ran three salons in the town. "After school I used to hang out in the salon, instead of going to friends' houses," says Jonice.

In such a traditional household, it seemed that the only way to leave home was to get married, but Jocely, the fourth sister, dreamed of seeing the world. She saved up and in 1982 went to New York to visit an old neighbour from Vitoria. She planned to stay for a month, but the few hundred dollars she had brought ran out in a matter of days. She faced a choice: fly home or start earning.

She could have been in trouble. "New York was a lot more violent then and many Brazilian women were prostitutes, so there was this prejudice," says Malin. Luckily, Jocely had skills.

She spoke no English, but found a job at a nail salon run by a Portuguese woman. At the time the fashion was for stick-on acrylic nails which would be removed weeks later, leaving quite a bit of damage. Jocely's focus was on restoring the nail's natural health and lustre. Her reputation for manicures spread and she attracted a powerful customer - Adnan Khashoggi. The arms-trade magnate would book her for the entire day, at a rate of $100 an hour, so he could have manicures between meetings. Through him she met many influential people, from stars such as Brooke Shields and Rod Stewart to the editors of fashion magazines like Elle and Marie Claire.

Soon she was earning well and, one by one, her sisters came over to join her. Jonice was the second to come to New York. She was dazzled. "It was when I arrived here that I realised Brazil was Third World," she says. "We knew nothing."

In 1987 the sisters opened their first nail salon on 57th St between 5th and 6th Avenue, then considered a fairly undesirable location. People thought they were crazy, says Jonice. At the time you didn't need a licence to run a nail salon so it was the obvious place to start, but they had other beauty secrets to impart. A few years later, at the start of the '90s, they began offering their - as yet unnamed - extreme bikini wax. It removed all pubic hair from below, not just at the sides.

Their signature wax had been invented by their sister Janea. "It's a funny story actually," says Malin. Back in the late '70s Janea was in Bahia with her husband, having a beer and some fried fish on the beach. She was admiring a beautiful girl, but as she walked past Janea was horrified by the pubic hair protruding from the back of her tiny bikini. "The image - it was like a mirror that shattered," says Malin.

Janea's next thought was: "Wow, do we have hair there?"

At home her suspicion was confirmed. But when she went to a salon to have it removed, she met with resistance: "Are you crazy? I'm not touching you there," was the response.

So Janea decided to do it herself. She locked herself in the waxing booth with a mirror and after about three hours of painful experimentation came out feeling fabulous. Then she convinced her co-workers to do the same. "They were like: 'Oh my god I don't feel ashamed when I'm in bed with men, I don't feel shame when I go to the doctor, I feel cleaner,'" explains Malin.

When they introduced it in New York, their bikini wax became wildly popular. It helped that they still counted the editors of fashion magazines among their customers. "Our only error was not to call it the J Sisters wax," says Jonice.

But there was a problem - they were coming under pressure from rivals. The early '90s had seen a boom in online porn, which increasingly featured hairless actors and models. "It's very practical for pornography but it's just very practical for sex," adult film-maker Anna Span told the BBC. Adult magazines such as Playboy and Penthouse also showed little or no pubic hair.

Jonice says Playboy called the salon, claiming they had come up with the idea first. "They said: 'This is ours, we do this for the porno site,'" she says. Jonice's defence was to say that it was just what everyone in Brazil did. "I said we were introducing our culture," she says.

"That's why all over the world it's known as a Brazilian. I played it that way so they would leave me alone. But it started here, not there."

People haven't forgotten that the J Sisters were the real pioneers. They were consulted for shows like Gossip Girl and Sex And the City.

"Sarah Jessica Parker came here all the time," says Jocely.

They count many celebrities as close friends.

"They have very intimate relationships with people," says Malin.

"If you spread your legs to a woman then you don't have anything else to hide. I've been there so many times and you end up talking about everything: depression, kids, anal sex... It's crazy and a little bit therapeutic."

As well as Malin's book, a biopic about the sisters is in production in Brazil - a "drama", or comic drama, say the producers. "They were very brave to leave this small town in Brazil and go to New York with no money and no English," says Karen Castanho, one of the producers. "They have such energy, I've never met anyone like them."

Prep Your Skin for Summer

Prep Your Skin for Summer

Show off your skin with confidence this summer!

For gorgeous, smooth skin you'll feel ready to bare, you need to take a few simple steps.

Try this head-to-toe refresher to take your skin out of hibernation.

 1. Reveal Glowing Skin

Regular exfoliation can be a part of a healthy skin regimen no matter the season; as long as your skin is not sensitive, exfoliation can help you achieve smooth, healthy-looking skin that makes you look more glowing and youthful. “But it must be done with care,” says Doris Day, MD, a dermatologist in New York City. “The goal is to lift off the outer layer of skin cells that are ready to be sloughed off without stripping the skin.”

Brushes, polishing cloths, and scrubs offer easy ways to smooth away rough spots. Rotating cleansing brushes work by physically buffing off the dead skin cells. Exfoliating cloths, microdermabrasion kits, and scrubs with granular ingredients also operate the same way. “For the body, look for a scrub that contains coarse particles that dissolve over time, like sugar, so you don’t irritate the skin,” says Dr. Day.

Products that chemically exfoliate the skin contain ingredients such as glycolic, salicylic, or polyhydroxy acids that cause the skin to shed its outer layer and reveal the newer layer.

 2. Remove Hair Without Irritation

If your summer forecast calls for sunny days at the beach or poolside, you may be putting some effort into removing unwanted hair. But once you rip off the wax strip, it’s also important to care for the skin that’s newly exposed to the elements.

Give your skin some time to recover before rolling out your beach towel or getting active outdoors. “I advise clients to stay out of the sun or heat for at least 48 hours after any hair-removal process,” says Cindy Barshop, owner of Completely Bare spas. “Follicles are vulnerable to irritation, and skin may be sensitive due to any heat or friction from lasers, waxing, or shaving.”

Since most of us don’t plan our hair removal that far in advance, buffer your tender skin with an oil-free sunscreen, wait for it to dry (about 5 minutes), and dust on some talc-free baby powder, says Barshop. To prevent ingrown hairs, it’s helpful to wear loose-fitting clothing and use an after-waxing product that contains glycolic and salicylic acids, which team up to prevent dead skin cells from causing bothersome bumps.

3. Fight UV Rays With Food

All the work you put into making your skin look good won’t be worth it unless you guard it from the sun’s damaging rays, which are strongest during the summer. Surprisingly, you can protect yourself from the inside, too. “In addition to using sunscreen, eat cooked tomatoes every day if you know you’re going to be in the sun,” says Jessica Wu, MD, assistant clinical professor of dermatology at USC Medical School. According to research, cooked tomatoes are rich in lycopene, an antioxidant that helps fight the effects of UV rays such as redness, swelling, and blistering from sunburn. If you plan to spend a lot of time outdoors, you may benefit from consuming tomato sauce, grilled tomatoes, or even Bloody Marys. “This doesn’t replace sunscreen, but the habit could give you additional protection if you can’t reach your back and miss a spot,” Dr. Wu adds.

4. Clear Up Body Breakouts

It’s no better to have acne on your body than on the face, especially in the heat, when hiding and covering up isn’t an option. The approach to treating acne on the back, chest, and elsewhere on the body is the same as treating facial acne: “Exfoliate regularly, don’t pick, and treat with effective ingredients,” says Day.

Washing with products that contain salicylic acid helps slough off the dead skin cells; a treatment product with micronized benzoyl peroxide can also help by penetrating the skin and killing off the bacteria that cause acne.

If your skin is sensitive, investing in an acne-treating blue light tool may be worth the cost. “You simply wave the light wand over skin for five minutes daily and it helps kill bacteria,” says Leslie Baumann, MD, a dermatologist in Miami. If you have severe body acne, see a dermatologist.

 5. Erase Cellulite

First, the good news: Some products may be able to smooth out the undesirable dimples and unevenness of cellulite. The bad news: They won’t get rid of cellulite forever. The smoothing and toning effect, like many good things in life, is fleeting. Still, it may be worth slathering on a toning body lotion to make your skin look and feel tighter for a day at the beach or a special event.

“Products that contain caffeine and theophylline temporarily dehydrate fat cells,” says Dr. Baumann. “However, it’s the massage and the application of the cream that does the work.” The best course of action long-term is to exercise regularly, coupled with targeted massage, suggests Baumann.

Another way to hide cellulite is to apply a fake tan. Take advantage of the newest self-tanners, which have come a long way from the strong-smelling streaky creams or sprays of yesteryear. “There has been so much progress in the formulations — the colors are natural, there’s no streaking, and the scent is so much better,” says Day.

 6. Treat Your Feet

If you’ve stuffed your feet inside boots all winter, they probably could use a little TLC for sandal weather. Jump-start your program with a salon pedicure, or if you’re short on time, you can heed Day’s DIY tip, which will help soften feet while you sleep. First, remove thicker skin with a foot file. Apply a rich emollient cream or ointment, then cover the feet in plastic wrap and cotton socks. Leave on overnight. Repeat every day until you achieve smooth skin, then once a week to maintain soft skin.

Are you asking for the 'full bush Brazilian'?

Are you asking for the 'full bush Brazilian'?

Tailor-making your bikini wax is the new trend for the hair down there

Is hairiness back for good? Or it is just the beauty take on the 70s fashion revival? Alongside armpit hair hitting the red carpet are getting Full Bush Brazilian waxes.

Hold up – what?

Our American sisters have coined the trend, which refers to the bikini line and bum bit being waxed bare, with a fuller bush left to flourish on top. Like beachy waves; it looks effortless but is precisely orchestrated.

We spoke to the experts Kim Lawless AKA Waxing Queen, who confirmed the trend is taking off here, too.

"We have seen a movement with regards to more hair wanted in the bikini area," Director Maria-Louise Featherstone said. "We still class a Brazilian as everything removed from underneath but on top it is up to the client if she would like a strip of hair left or a triangle." This has led to the "tailor made bikini wax".

So if you don't already, it's totally fine to go off piste with your wax. Some clients are directing our waxing therapists whilst on the bed to exactly what hair they would like removed and what hair they would like left behind.

During this busy bikini-sporting season, most requested bikini wax is still "by far" the 'Brazilian' (think landing strip if you can't already picture it).

Also on offer are the 'Hollywood' (ALL off), the 'G-String' (where a triangle of hair is left) and the 'Basic Bikini' tidy-up, which should suffice for the high-waisted swimwear shoppers out there.

Whether the 'Full Bush' will grow big enough to be on your waxing menu remains to be seen.

5 Ways to Tell If Your Waxing Salon Is Legit

What to look for: "All of the equipment should appear to be clean and organized, There should be a clean paper sheet on the table and all sticks, strips, and rollers should be unused."

Yelp It
While this may not be ground breaking, online resources like Yelp are fantastic for finding great people in the cosmetic service industry,

What not to do? "Don't call the spa or salon and ask the receptionist who their 'best waxer' "I've worked in many a high end salon and often the receptionist will just recommend their newest person since he or she hasn't built their own clientele yet. Do your own research."

Make Sure They Specialize
You wouldn't want a heart surgeon who focused on other areas of medicine, too—would you? There's a lot to be said for perfecting your practice. That's why the number one feature to look for is a wax specialist who only waxes. "Some people who wax also do nails and hair. You want a technician who has perfected their craft to ensure they know exactly what they're doing."

Quiz Your Waxer
Asking questions is a good way to get to know your aesthetician but also gauge their level of knowledge. Ask them how long they've been waxing, if they use a pre- and post-wax treatment, or how to properly maintain your skin between waxes. "If you aren't satisfied with the answer or you don't feel it was an educated answer, don't continue with the service.”

Look Out for Laziness
Cheap supplies—sticks that break in half, for example—can be signs that your technician is cutting corners, And this usually means she is cutting corners that concern sanitation as well. (Ew.) Another red flag: "Your wax technician should never, ever double dip in the wax pot. Double dipping is a sign she doesn't know what she's doing or she doesn't care enough about what she does to do it properly."
